Artist Statement:
“I am interested in the history and
traditions of Post-Minimal reductive painting, and its content of
aspiring toward the Sublime through formal considerations of presence
and absence. Using this antecedent as a point of departure, I am
seeking to reinvigorate the conventional flux of form and
immateriality, by broadening the language of The Monochrome to
incorporate aspects of the Postmodern that occupy the liminal space
between authenticity and simulation; image and referent; uniqueness
and ubiquity; reality and fantasy - toward notions of a Contemporary
Sublime.“ |

Process:
Ripples, varying in depth from
thousands of an inch to one quarter of an inch, are hand-carved into a
polymer-panel substrate. The ripples are sanded smooth and coated with
automotive paint. After curing, the top-coat is wet-sanded and buffed
to a glass-like finish |
